Is this AI tool's crypto token official or a scam?
What happened
While researching AI tools, we came across a hyped video about a well-known AI assistant. It linked to a crypto token that had launched on Oct 2 and used that tool's name.
It looked like an official launch. It wasn't. The token had no connection to the tool's actual maker, and it was most likely pump bait: a token that rides a popular name, draws buyers in, then gets sold off by the people who launched it.
We didn't click through or buy.
Why this works on people
AI tools are moving fast, and new features show up every week. That makes almost any "new launch" seem believable. Scammers borrow a trusted name and add urgency: launch day, early access, limited supply.
The video looked like the many real launch videos around it, and that's the trick.
The same thing happens with fake browser extensions, fake "AI connectors for Salesforce," and fake apps that ask you to sign in with your work account. Anything that borrows a trusted name to get your money, your login or your data access deserves a check.
How to check, step by step
- Go to the vendor yourself. Type the company's site into your browser. Don't use the link in the video or post. If the launch is real, it's on their site or official account.
- Check the official account, not the look. Verified badges and logos can be copied. Look at the account's history and whether the company links to it.
- Be suspicious of tokens attached to AI tools. Most AI vendors don't launch tokens. Treat one as unofficial unless the vendor says otherwise in its own channels.
- Watch for urgency. "Launch today," "only a few left," "early buyers only."
- For anything asking for access, check the publisher. For a Salesforce app or AI connector, confirm who publishes it and what permissions it asks for before you install.
How to check you're protected
- Plant a fake. Give ChatGPT or Claude a made-up "official launch" link and ask it to verify. It should tell you to check the vendor's own site and not take the link at face value.
- Pick one AI tool you use and find its official site, account and announcement page now, before you need them.
- Make a team rule: no installs, sign-ins or purchases from links in videos or DMs.
